Northwest Baby & Child proudly accepted three editorial awards at the annual Parenting Publications of America (PPA) Editorial and Design Competition. The awards ceremony recognized 78 parenting newspapers and magazines at a banquet on March 1, 2008, the climax of the three-day PPA Annual Convention in Little Rock, Arkansas.
PPA’s Editorial and Design Awards Competition recognizes excellence in journalism, photography and design achieved by publishers, editors, writers, and designers at member publications. Professor Daryl Moen of the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism coordinated the annual contest. A panel of judges reviewed 1,249 entries to choose the winners in each circulation category. All judges have had significant professional experience.
Northwest Baby & Child won a silver award for Heather Rader’s page-one feature in May 2007, “Motherhood: Finding Your Balance.” Another silver award went to Associate Editor Jessica Lane for her book reviews, and a bronze was awarded to Betty Freeman for her monthly editor’s column.
“Even though we’re a small publication, we’ve consistently won awards for excellence in both editorial and design categories over the years we’ve been members of PPA,” said Editor Betty Freeman, who represented Northwest Baby & Child at the PPA Conference. “I’m proud of what we do, and hope our readers appreciate the hard work we put into every issue. We’re all about providing support and encouragement to parents, who have the hardest and most rewarding job in the world.”
