Great Starts Birth & Family Education is a community-based, non-profit organization dedicated to educating and supporting new and expectant parents by showing them their options and empowering them to make informed choices in pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenting. Great Starts publishes a biannual Birth Services Survey, which collects data from maternity care providers in the Puget Sound area about services offered and the prevalence of certain maternity care practices and procedures. The survey contains responses from 26 maternity care providers, including the area's largest hospitals, birth centers, and midwifery practices. The survey presents information regarding rates of Cesarean births, VBACs, use of anesthesia and medications, fetal monitoring methods, induction, and other labor interventions. It also provides information about labor facilities and postpartum and newborn care procedures. Copies of the Birth Services Survey may be obtained from Great Starts Birth & Family Education for $10 by calling 206-789-0883. For more information, visit their website. |
