New booster seat law passed

A new law just passed by the Washington Legislature requires children to use booster seats until they are eight years old or at least 4 feet, 9 inches tall.

Lawmakers updated the state's "child restraint law." The old version required car seats for children up to age four and booster seats for children between four and six (or between 40 and 60 pounds).

A booster seat raises a child up so that the shoulder or lap belt fits properly. Experts say booster seats reduce the risk of a child being injured in a car crash by almost 60 percent.
