CHILD Profile, Washington State's health promotion and immunization registry system, sends over 100,000 health promotion mailings each month to parents of Washington children-with up-to-date information on immunizations, nutrition, safety, growth, and development for their child. Each mailing contains essential information specific to the child's age, and each mailing is timed to provide reminders of necessary immunizations and well-child checkups, as they are needed. Like most other parents in Washington, Darla Meston, a busy mom of three, has very little time and plenty of things on her to-do list every day. She has been receiving health promotion mailings from Washington's CHILD Profile for each of her children-two boys ages four and nine and a three-month-old daughter-since birth, providing her with timely information about her children's growth and development as well as reminders about when her children's immunizations are due. CHILD Profile is the health promotion and immunization registry system that serves all Washington parents and is used by thousands of health professionals across the state. Working with doctors and parents, CHILD Profile helps to ensure that Washington's children receive the preventive health care and immunizations they need. CHILD Profile is made up of two components: a series of health promotion materials sent to parents of all children from birth to age six, and a statewide immunization registry for health care providers. "Even with my third child, I appreciate getting the reminders on how long she should be sleeping, how much she should be eating, and what I need to plan for in the coming months in terms of development," said Meston. "The information is to the point, easy-to-read, and the full-color materials really jump out at me. CHILD Profile realizes that parents don't have a lot of time, so they provide me with the most important and relevant information at each age, and I can expect a new mailing every so often with even more great information." When Meston got her first CHILD Profile mailing nine years ago, she did not know what to expect. "I was surprised when that first mailing came, not knowing how I was receiving it, but as a first-time mom I really appreciated the information," said Meston. "Over the years, I have come to rely on the CHILD Profile mailings; even in the short time between my four-year-old son and my daughter, it was amazing the things I didn't remember about an infant-the mailings are a great refresher. I also especially like the immunization record card they send and the growth and development booklet. They are great resources that I can use to keep track of each of my children's immunizations and growth, and use as references to talk to my doctor when I have questions or concerns." The nationally-recognized CHILD Profile mailings include letters and brochures about immunizations, well-child check-ups, nutrition, growth, development, and safety. The health promotion materials are sent to parents on a regular basis (every three to six months) and are designed to help them make educated decisions about their child's health care. CHILD Profile materials are endorsed by the Washington Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Washington Association of Family Physicians, and the University of Washington School of Public Health Maternal Child Health Program. "I really appreciate CHILD Profile and the information they provide to parents," said Meston, "There is a lot of information that parents need to know to keep their children healthy, and the mailings I receive help me to stay up-to-date on the health and development of my children." CHILD Profile is a joint project of the Department of Health and the Medical Assistance Administration of the Department of Social and Health Services in cooperation with Public Health-Seattle and King County . |
