Here are a few new and interesting car friendly toys that our family enjoyed discovering. One of our favorites, by Kushies, is called Stacrobats. These cute manipulatives are magnetic figures and balls, stored in a well-constructed zippered storage bag that doubles as a magnetic stage. We had fun seeing how high we could stack the acrobats and balls and just how much weight they could hold. They even held up nicely with tugging, mouthing, and “toddler love.” You can learn more about them online. Second on our favorites list is a game called Squiggle On-the-Go, by RandomLine Inc. A simple and portable game that produced lots of giggles, it is basically a traveling doodle pad that challenges you to turn a small “squiggle” into a picture or story line. A fun and inexpensive travel game, you can learn more online. Lastly, take a look at V-Tech’s V. Smile pocket games. This game is very user-friendly—easy to learn and manipulate from the start. For someone who hesitated to introduce her family to educational videogames, I found them interesting and fun—and I was pleased to find out the volume can be turned down really low! We found this very versatile, offering the option to use headphones or connect to a TV. Learn more online. If you’re looking for a place to put all of these items when you are traveling, try the KidKase Mobile Activity Center. This medium size portable traveling case carries your child’s supplies, is mobile enough to take places where your children may need to sit quietly for a period of time, and great for those car trips that often inspire those wonderfully whiny words, “Are we there yet?” The strap is easily attached to most cars, and the tray has convenient legs that extend and fold for a nice flat surface, great for drawing, writing, or reading. KidKase feels sturdy enough to last for many years, a great addition for anyone who travels for long distances. |
